If you are looking at the weather and considering a road trip, you aren’t alone! Summer is a perfect time! However, without the right planning or tips, a road trip can turn into a bad experience.

Don't Let Your Road Trip Turn Sour Because of a Simple Problem

From a day at the lake fishing or just playing games to a weekend or even a week away visiting relatives, right through to a month long vacation where you drive around and explore a new area, summer and a road trip are the perfect match. Without the right planning and advice, however, this fun adventure can quickly turn into frowning faces sitting on the side of the freeway waiting for help to arrive. To prevent this from happening to your road trip, Progressive Products has the following tips to share.

Fluid Levels

You might be thinking that this is a simple one that you always check. But in reality, you would have been like most other drivers and not given it a thought. Your fluids, oils, and lubricants are the lifeblood of your engine. For this reason, it’s important to check their levels before you leave, and if required, replace any outdated fluids. Start with the following:
  • Engine Oil/Motor Lubricant
  • Brake Fluid
  • Water or Coolant
  • Transmission Fluid
  • Power Steering Oil
  • Along with these, check your owner’s manual for any other fluid levels that you can and should check.
If you notice that any of the levels are looking a bit low, give them a top up and pack the rest of the bottle in the trunk of your car. If you can clearly see that the oil is worn and can no longer protect your engine, opt for a synthetic oil change instead of a simple top up. Click here to buy AMSOIL’s Signature Series 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil which has been designed and formulated to protect your engine and help keep it running at its best for longer. Time for Your Tires

People often take their tires for granted, giving little to no attention to the very items that are responsible for them moving forward. Even before engines, the Flintstones car still needed wheels! Take some time a couple of days before your journey to check the following:
  • Are your tires bald?
  • Can you see any nicks or cuts taken out?
  • Does each tire have the same level of air pressure?
  • Bald tires are when your tread is so low that it is unreasonable to expect them to safely stop your vehicle. Take a few minutes to give your tires a thorough inspection.
If you see any spots where there is too little tread or you can see where debris has taken chunks from your tire, have it replaced before you undertake your road trip. Small issues like this can cause serious safety concerns when it comes to stopping and a blowout as you cruise down the freeway. When it comes to the tip on tire pressure, it’s about handling and fuel economy. If your tires are all set to the correct pressure then not only will your vehicle be easier to steer and maneuver but you can also expect it to use less gas. By keeping the air pressure at the correct level, you reduce the friction that occurs as you drive, meaning your car can move forward more easily and by using less fuel.

Now for Vehicle Safety

Every vehicle will include some level of safety feature. Whether it’s the basic seatbelts, lane assist technology, or a flurry of airbags throughout the car. Before you head off, be sure that yours are all operating by checking the following:
  • Are there any lights on the dash that you don’t understand?
  • Have the seatbelts become frayed?
  • Does the vehicle have trouble stopping?
  • Are there any chips or cracks in the windshield?
  • Do the indicator lights and horn work correctly?
This can be considered a quick list of safety items to check in your car before you leave. However, if your owner’s manual lists any other safety items, be sure that it is in full working condition.

Give Your Car a Head Start With a Synthetic Oil Change in Edmonds

If it sounds like these tips are basic, it’s because they are! However, despite this, they are some of the most commonly neglected aspects of regular car maintenance. Before you head out on any extended drive, be sure that your car is up to the task by giving it a quick check using this list. If any of your fluids are low during your check, you can easily click here to buy AMSOIL’s Signature Series 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil from Progressive Products’ online store.
