While there's no doubt that motorcycles have many advantages, protection from the elements and comfort are not amongst them. Before you take your bike out for its first road trip, read these tips.

Three Easy Tips to Help Keep Your Cool During a Roadtrip

If this is your first road trip where you plan to give your new motorbike some breathing space, it's important to remember some of the less than appealing (for a biker) differences that you will notice. To get you started, Progressive Products has three important tips to share with you.

Plan Your Journey

Have you ever been riding on the highway during the dusk hours or while tired and distracted? It isn't an enjoyable experience and certainly isn't a safe one. However, if you don't plan realistic journey legs then this is exactly the type of scenario you can expect to run (ride) into. Prudent planning will go a long way when it comes to avoiding a scenario such as this. Visualize the route that you're considering taking and look for places to stop and rest that are shorter distances than you would usually aim for. As nice and shiny as your bike is, it's still a rumbling and vibrating machine directly underneath you while you ride in the same position. For this reason, it's important to not only take more breaks but look for better spaces to stop at. Search for places where you can take a short walk to a photo point,  where you can use a bathroom inside a store, or even just somewhere to sit peacefully and listen to road trip inspired music to keep your energy levels up. These are great ways to give your whole body some time away. Of course, make sure you remember to adjust the ETA that you advise to anybody you are meeting, to ensure they don't become worried when you don't arrive on time. Don't make one of the breaks you take be caused by an oil leak or some other type of basic maintenance that you should have noticed before your trip. Give your bike some basic maintenance leading up to your trip, including a synthetic oil change in Lynnwood to help reduce your gas usage. Let's Talk About Comfort

Remember above when we mentioned that you would be sitting on a rumbling machine all ride long? As you can imagine, after long periods of time this becomes less than ideal. While you don't have to trade in the bike you just bought for a more comfortable ride, you can replace the seat with an aftermarket alternative that can offer you some more comfort. This doesn't mean that your only option will be a plush sheep wool seat, but something with some support in different areas can go a long (and comfortable!) way.

The Weather Matters

Each time you planned a car based road trip you checked the weather. Of course, unless it listed a hurricane warning then you were likely unphased by what was coming. On a bike, however, it's a different story. Careful planning is going to be your best friend in these instances. Instead of canceling a trip, look for rest stops along your journey that you can plan to stop at during the estimated time of any heavy weather. To help keep your road trip interesting, look for places of interest that you can stop at where you can explore a new town or take photos of a historical landmark or object. Of course, instead of a deterrent, you could always use the weather forecast to determine where you will ride for the day and where you will stop over for the night, whereas previously you would have continued to drive through it all.
